The Mechanist: One-of-One Recycled Metal Giraffe

The Mechanist is a one-of-one giraffe sculpture, assembled by hand in Zimbabwe from reclaimed steel and salvaged mechanical parts.

Chains trace the profile while gears, bearings, washers, tools, cutlery and steel offcuts form the animal’s internal structure. Seen together, these discarded elements become a precise, richly detailed silhouette with an unmistakable sense of movement and character.

Its tall, narrow proportions make it especially effective on a console, substantial shelf or low plinth. The naturally varied silver, charcoal and oxidised tones reveal the previous life of every component.

Care

Dust gently with a soft, dry brush or cloth. Avoid chemical cleaners and prolonged moisture. If displayed outdoors, the metal will continue to weather and develop a natural patina.
