A hen with a full belly and settled stance, built from panels of chalk-white salvaged sheet curved together into a rounded body. Wing feathers are cut and welded proud along each flank so they stand clear and break up the profile rather than lying flush.
The head and neck are worked in dark oxidised metal against the pale body, with a serrated red comb, a wattle beneath the beak and a punched eye. Rivet heads remain visible across the breast and wing. Fine wire legs drop to long splayed toes, welded flat so she stands on uneven ground and throws a spidery shadow.
The crazing, staining and wear on the panels came with the metal. It has not been added or cleaned away, so the markings fall differently on every bird.
Good on a kitchen worktop, dresser or windowsill, and equally at home outdoors on a step, wall top or among low planting. Particularly strong grouped with the cockerels.
