A hedgehog built from reclaimed steel, its back covered in dozens of spines cut and set one at a time. Each is tipped in pale paint against the dark body, so the whole back reads as a mass of quills - and throws a proper shadow across whatever it's standing on when the light is low.
The head is a tapered cone of steel with a pricked ear either side and a darkened snout. Four legs, splayed, clawed, caught mid-scurry. The body keeps the gunmetal tone of the steel it came from, with the variation you get from working metal by hand rather than pressing it.
The spines are set individually, so no two hedgehogs have quite the same texture across the back.
12cm long, 10cm wide, 8cm high. Roughly the size of a grapefruit, and heavier than it looks.
Stays put on a shelf, hall table or windowsill, and just as happy tucked into planting or sat on a garden wall where the spines catch the sun.
