A guinea fowl standing tall on fine legs, neck extended, head raised. At 31cm it's one of the tallest pieces in the range and the silhouette is unmistakable - a heavy teardrop body carried high, small head, that distinctive helmet crest. If a Zimbabwean range has a signature bird, this is it.
The body is a smooth swelling form shaped from steel and finished in dark oxidised brown-black, then hand-painted all over with rows of small white spots that follow the curve of the flank and taper down the neck the way the real plumage does. Hundreds of them, one at a time. The head carries a bright red casque above the crown and a matching wattle under a pale hooked beak - the only colour on an otherwise dark bird. Fine banded legs run down to long splayed toes, welded flat and set wide.
The spots are placed by eye, so the pattern falls differently on every bird.
24 × 18 × 31cm.
Good on a hall console, dresser or wide windowsill, and strong outdoors on a path edge or among grasses, where the spotted body reads clearly against green.
