A cockerel with its chest out and head raised, built from overlapping panels of salvaged painted steel — mustard yellow, oxblood, cobalt and worn off-white. Each panel is cut to shape and welded so the edges stand proud like feathers rather than lying flat.

The tail is the defining detail: a fan of long curved blades sweeping up and back, wide enough to nearly double the apparent width of the bird. The head is dark metal with a serrated red comb, hanging wattle, pale beak and punched eye. Fine wire legs drop to splayed three-toed feet, welded flat so it stands securely.

The paint is not newly applied; it is whatever was already on the metal when it reached the workshop. Colours and markings therefore fall differently on every bird. Each piece varies naturally from the one photographed.

The strongest colour in the range, bringing warmth and movement to a pale or tonal setting. Good on a kitchen worktop, dresser or hall table, and equally at home outdoors on a wall top or step.

Care

Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. When displayed outdoors, the surface will continue to weather and develop a natural patina. Position in a sheltered spot and bring indoors during prolonged wet weather if you wish to slow the process.
