A cockerel with its chest out and head up, built from overlapping panels of salvaged painted steel - mustard yellow, oxblood, cobalt, worn off-white - each cut to shape and welded so the edges stand proud like feathers rather than lying flat.

The tail is the thing. A fan of long curved blades sweeping up and back, wide enough to nearly double the apparent width of the bird. The head is dark metal with a serrated red comb, a hanging wattle, a pale beak and a punched eye. Fine wire legs drop to splayed three-toed feet, welded flat so it stands on its own.

The paint isn't applied - it is whatever was already on the metal when it reached the workshop. Which means the colours land differently on every bird, and you won't get the one in the photograph.

Small — 17 × 8 × 21cm.
Medium — 18 × 10 × 25cm.

The strongest colour in the range, and the piece that pulls a shelf together when everything around it is white and gunmetal. Good on a kitchen worktop, dresser or hall table, and fine outdoors on a wall top or step.
